Medianeras
by Gustavo Taretto

»Medianeras« is the story of Mariana, Martin and the city. Martin and Mariana live on the same block, in opposite buildings. But they don’t manage to meet each other. They cross each other, not knowing about the other’s existence. She goes up the stairs, he goes down the stairs; he gets on the bus, and she gets off the bus. They are at the same video club, but a video rack stands between them; or they sit in the same row at the cinema, but the room is dark. The city brings them together, and, at the same time, brings them apart.
Gustavo Taretto joined the school of the Argentinean master José Martinez Suarez in 1999, where he began writing and directing. His third short film, »Medianeras«, received more than 40 international awards, including the Grand Prix in Clermont Ferrand, 2006. His fourth short »Hoy no estoy« (Not available today) has premiered in Locarno and received a Leopard of Tomorrow Award for the Best Short Film. »Medianeras« (2010) is Gustavo’s first full-length feature film. Before he began filmmaking, Gustavo worked as a creative in Buenos Aires’ advertising industry since 1993 where he was promoted to the executive creative board of Ogilvy Argentina. He received several advertising awards at festivals around the world, among others the most important creative award, the Gold Lion in 2002. Gustavo Taretto was born in Buenos Aires in 1965.
