Synopsis

When Martin falls in love with wealthy and well educated Elena, he is caught between his dreams of rising above his humble origins to become a writer, his love for the woman he hopes to marry and his political reawakening that leads to conflicts with her bourgeois family.

Director

Pietro Marcello (Italy, 1976) attended the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied painting. In 2007, he realized the documentary CROSSING THE LINE, which was presented at the 64th Venice International Film Festival. In 2009 his first feature, THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF, won Best Film and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 27th Turin Film Festival, the Caligari Preis at the Berlinale, the Signis Prize at BAFICI, and many others. In 2011 his documentary THE SILENCE OF PELEŠJAN was presented as a special event at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. In 2015, LOST AND BEAUTIFUL won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury – Special Mention at the Locarno Film Festival.
