World sales company THE MATCH FACTORY is dedicated to bringing the finest in arthouse cinema to the international market. Since our founding in 2006, our passion has been to work with films of signature and vision from around the globe. THE MATCH FACTORY has built strong relationships with acclaimed directors and producers, while working simultaneously to discover promising new filmmakers with a powerful original style.

Founded by Michael Weber, Pandora Film's Reinhard Brundig and Karl Baumgartner, THE MATCH FACTORY already looks back to a tremendous track record: THE MATCH FACTORY's films received numerous awards on the most important film festivals. Amongst others, GRBAVICA by Jasmila Zbanic was honoured with the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlinale 2006. The same year, Bahman Ghobadi received his second Golden Shell Award in San Sebastian. In 2007, Fatih Akin's THE EDGE OF HEAVEN was awarded with the Prix Du Scenario at the Festival de Cannes. WALTZ WITH BASHIR by Ari Folman won the Golden Globe® for Best Foreign Language Film and was nominated for the Academy Award® Best Foreign Language Film in 2009.

In 2009, THE MATCH FACTORY showcased further highly anticipated titles like THE DUST OF TIME by Theo Angelopoulos, SOUL KITCHEN by Fatih Akin, ON THE PATH by Jasmila Zbanic or DESERT FLOWER by Sherry Horman, based on the world-bestselling novel. 


In 2010, AJAMI by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani and THE MILK OF SORROW by Claudia Llosa have been nominated for the Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film ® (Oscar), BAL - HONEY by Semih Kaplanoglu was honoured with the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and Apichatpong Weerasethakul's UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES won the Palm d'Or at Festival de Cannes.

In 2011, SLEEPING SICKNESS by Ulrich Köhler won the Silver Bear for Best Director and IF NOT US, WHO by Andres Veiel the Prize of the Guild of German Art at the Berlinale. BACK TO STAY by Milagros Mumenthaler received the Pardo d'oro, along with the Pardo d'oro for Best Actress for Maria Canale at Festival del Film Locarno. Not to forget the presentation of films by such renowned directors as Aki Kaurismäki (LE HAVRE - Official Competition Festival de Cannes), Miranda July (THE FUTURE - Official Selection Berlinale 2011), Amir Naderi (CUT - Opening Film Orrizonti Venice Film Festival 2011), Yorgos Lanthimos (ALPS - Official Competition Venice Film Festival 2011) and many others.

2012 has started off with two Silver Bears at Berlinale for Christian Petzold's BARBARA (Best director) and Bence Fliegauf's JUST THE WIND (Grand Jury Silver Bear) and the Alfred Bauer Prize for Miguel Gomes' TABU.
